Essex rocks! Alabama Circus play at mega party! We had a truly wonderful time playing at Donna's birthday party. Massive thanks to her husband Paul for being such a gent and for organising a brilliant night... we feel privileged to have played a small part. Set in a 400 year old barn and with a hog roast, every drink under the sun, disco, Jake & Elwood and the entire crowd in cowboy (and injun) dress and of course the Alabama Circus boys on stage it was a great night. What's more loads of money was raised for a local hospice. Got back to the hotel... eventually. It was also our first gig proper with new members John Boy on bass and Dusty Phil on lead who despite only having about three weeks to learn the set were both in great form....
We all forgot our camera's but you can see some pics on www.sophiestern.com just click on Gallery in the menu and then click Events Gallery and choose Donna's party. Bucking broncos and all thatTook a great trip over to Suffolk to the Honnington Inn for a birthday party and despite the cold were made very welcome by birthday girl Bonita. We were without a bass player after Ken departed but Kev performed valiantly covering on his keyboards. Unfortunately the Bucking Bronco ride finished before we got a chance to put Doc on it but we hope to be back before too long for a Country & Western night so who knows! Party in the Park 16th AugustWe've doing a fund raiser a Argos Sport and Social Club on Saturday August 16th... free entry but all drink, food, raffle and donations go to a range of charities so turn up and support the cut down band... that's me, Kev, Simon and sitting in on lead guitar for the Doc is my eldest son Josh.
We're bass lessAfter a couple of years with the band Ken 'Grumpy' Piercey decided to pack up his gear and he back up North... well Junction 18 of the M1 anyway! Thanks to Ken for providing a great bass line for the band and we hope the musical he is doing the entire score for works out well. So if you are an experienced or just keen country bass player get in touch. We've gigs waiting...
Original tunes from Alabama CircusWe've been in the studio and cut three original tracks which you can find on our myspace page or you can be really bold and download them for the princely sum of 99p each.... I can feel the Lear Jet coming any minute! Be sure to let us know what you think.
The crazy gang at the Black LionSomewhat late getting this to press... but we had a great gig at the Black Lion - thanks to the fantastic crowd there who really knew how to party. Hope to have some more gig news in the New Year and we're gonna try to record a few original tunes too.
Finally The Doc has set up a MySpace page for us www.myspace.com/alabamacircus so take a look and add us to your friends. Latest news ... well is wasBin a while! We've all been doin other stuff but we're back albeit with a slightly different line up. First though I must say a big thanks to Tadek and Danny who have gone on to greener pastures but helped the band no end during difficult times. Good luck fellas and hope to see you sometime.
We had a try without a guitarist...even got to the studio which was great but decided we do need that country twang... enter Lee 'Doc' Hopton. After playing in several local bands Lee needed a new challenge... meet Kev and Ken!! Lee is now busy cramming for a next gig on 8th December in Ashby. We're also pleased to welcome Kev's son Simon to the band as our drummer... not only a cracking drummer but Simon also halves the band's average age. So as long as we can keep him away from the Metallica CDs we should be ok. Hope to see you all in Ashby on 8th... Archie Saturday 26th and we had a really fun time at a surprise birthday party for Jean in Cople - thanks to her and husband Danny for letting us share it! [Pictures here] It was lovely to see people up dancing and singing even with all the lights still on - three generations too!! We even got coaxed into a rendition of Freebird! Space was tight and shall we just say that Kev and Ken got to know each other a little better than either expected... talking of which we haven't seen the happy couple for a while! Tadek has now been surgically removed from behind his drum kit and the bruises should have gone by the time of his holidays. Talking of holidays it looks as if June is out for gigging with one or more of the band being away for the entire month except for a few days when we are going to get to the recording studio. More on that later... Well the gig at the Blackbird was great fun... Train In Vain was... different! But all went down pretty well with a mainly blues/rock crowd so hopefully we'll get some gigs from that. Busy now practising the set for a private party at the end of the month and trying to work out the new Atomic Amp. Probably gonna have to fork out on a new PA too, as the current one seems to have a mind of it's own at the moment. Ken discovered a cracking country music radio site at www.countrybear.com check it out and let me know if you want to hear us covering any tunes... no more than three chords though please! Cheers for now, Archie
Danny has sorted us out a mini gig at his local music pub on 30th April which is great as it will be the first time the five piece have played live. The pub is The Blackbird in Padbury just outside Buckingham. It's really an open session with some regular blues players as the house band and a nice relaxed atmosphere when we played there last year so looking forward to that. It's free entry so come along and listen to some cracking blues as well as a little ole' country rock band! Thought we'd add a Blog as it seems to be the thing to do nowadays. Good news is that Kev is back from his extended jaunt around Denmark so we can start rehearsing as a five piece again. Had a good jam at Ken's club on Sunday - even Tadek found it! ... all suffering from watching the football the night before but worthwhile.... got to play a Strat 'cos Danny threw my untuned ES295 away in disgust... but it will return.... once Easter is out of the way and everyone is back from hols we hope to get out gigging... it's been too long.
